Lady Keziah

Concept art, background design, prop model, and character model for an original character.

Procreate, Zbrush, Marmoset Toolbag 3.

The concept for Keziah started off focused on female antagonist design - I wanted to make a woman was haunting, but still alluring enough to reel her enemies in. I knew I wanted to go more towards a gothic style as it is my own personal preference. I looked at various Gothic and Victorian-era dresses, goth clothing that I personally liked, and leather wear.

The iterations for Keziah were extremely quick - I only had a week to complete the design and render, so I spent no more than a day on each phase. The final render took about 2 days.

Next was prop design. I tried to follow the same style I did for the character, alluring yet haunting. I opted to go for a sleek and beautiful dagger, boasting sculpted faces. I went through this phase extremely quickly because I already had an idea for what I wanted overall. I finally chose a simpler, thinner dagger to make it easier for myself if I wished to model it.

I had a lot of fun with the details on these.

The final piece of the puzzle was the environment. I imagined Keziah to live in a cave, being the sole assassin that protects her clan’s properties. The assignment called for the character to be the focus in the painting, so I had her illuminated by cave light.
